About Aussie Hikers
Aussie Hikers is an independent directory of Australian walking tracks, built to help you find the right hike for the time you have. Whether that's a 30-minute waterfall stroll or a week on the Overland Track, our aim is simple: clear, honest, source-checked information, all in one place.
Who we are
Aussie Hikers is published by Compass Point Digital, an Australian digital publisher of independent, source-checked directories. We're not a government agency, tour operator or booking platform. We don't charge walkers anything to use the site.
Why we built it
Australia has thousands of walking tracks managed by eight state and territory park agencies, Parks Australia, councils and private landholders. Each publishes information in a different place and format. Comparing walks across regions, checking grades or finding a dog-friendly track can take hours. Aussie Hikers brings the key facts together in one consistent format and links back to the official source for every listing.
What you'll find here
- Walk listings for every state and territory, each with distance, typical time, official grade, elevation gain, access, parking, fees and permits, best season, dog rules and facilities
- Filters for time, difficulty, region, family-friendly, dog-friendly, overnight walks and public transport
- Guides on getting started, what to pack, permits by state, multi-day walks, hiking with kids and staying safe
- A track grades explainer covering the Australian Walking Track Grading System
- Listings for guided operators and hiking groups, where they meet our inclusion criteria
Our editorial and source-check policy
- Official sources first. Every walk listing is checked against the managing land manager's official page. That's usually the state or territory national parks agency, Parks Australia or a council. The source link is shown on the listing.
- No guessing. If an official source doesn't publish a fact, such as a grade or dog rule, we mark it as unknown rather than estimate. Our filters only use confirmed information.
- Official grades. We show the grade the agency publishes and don't re-grade walks.
- Respect for Country. We use dual or Aboriginal place names where land managers do, and we don't list closed or culturally restricted routes, such as the Wollumbin summit or the Uluṟu climb.
- Regular review. Listings are reviewed periodically. Readers can report errors via our Contact page, and we check every report against the official source before updating.
- Independent descriptions. Our descriptions are written by us. Paid or featured placement for operators is always clearly labelled and never changes a listing's official facts or grade.
- Safety first. Inclusion doesn't mean a track is open or safe on a given day. Every listing reminds walkers to check official alerts, weather and fire danger.
How we're funded
The site may be supported by advertising (including Google AdSense) and by optional featured listings for operators. See our Advertising Policy for how we keep editorial content separate.
